MDG Global Watch will
organize its first
Annual Civil Society Forum in
Paramaribo,
Suriname.
|

devoted
to the realization of the goals.
|
|
Objectives
of the
Paramaribo Civil Society Forum
The
Paramaribo Civil Society Forum
is MDG Global Watch's first step for building a global alliance or
movement for
the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
It is hoped that the civil society organizations
that will gather
in Paramaribo, Suriname, will resolve to build a momentum through their
continuous efforts to make irreversible the achievement of the goals.
The
Paramaribo Civil Society Forum
will give an opportunity to the participants to network and learn from
each
other. In this connection, the forum will discuss a number of best
practices
and call upon noted speakers to address issues of concern to the
realization of
the goals. The forum will review progress accomplished focusing the
deliberations on emerging impediments to the implementation of the MDG
compact.
|
Expected
Outcome of the Forum
The
expected outcome of the forum is manifold:
Participants
will be apprised of the respective
position of countries in the implementation of the goals, of
constraints faced and obstacles to overcome.
Enhanced
sharing of experiences through the
presentation and discussion of best practices, identification of policy
and operational measures and person-to-person contacts.
Dissemination
of knowledge, techniques, policy and
operational measures to be used to integrate natural disasters in MDG
national development plans and mitigate their impact when they occur
Furthering
the establishment of, and consolidating
national focal points, which are a salient feature of MDG Global
Watch’s organizational structure.
Keeping
the focus on the achievement of the Millennium
Development Goals in face of new emerging issues and current events
that may relegate them to a second plan.
The outcome of the forum
including substantive
presentations, deliberations, conclusions and recommendations reached
will form a report to be widely disseminated and used by existing
global deliberative processes on the goals

Participants and observers to
the Forum
Ideally,
each country of the world should be represented at the forum by
recognized civil society organizations. Also, interested
governments
and inter-governmental organizations should be able to attend.
Bearing
in mind that the forum will be held on an annual basis in rotation in
each region of the world and given that the Paramaribo Forum will take
place in the Caribbean and Latin America region, priority is being
given to the representation of countries and civil society
organizations of this region. In effort to increase global awareness of
the MDG compact and highlight the contribution of civil society to the
realization of the goals, the attendance as observers of
representatives of the media will be actively sought.
The participation
of Government officials especially those of the Caribbean and Latin
American region, and of representatives of international organizations
including the United Nations system, is encouraged and welcome. Also,
MDG Global Watch intends to invite to the forum several renowned
keynote speakers and experts on the issues to be addressed.
MDG Global
Watch is actively engaged in fundraising to bear the cost of
participation of representatives of civil society organizations,
representatives of selected media, keynote speakers, substantive
experts and experienced facilitators.
